NEW BRIDLEWAY NEEDS HELP

Can you help with evidence for a new bridleway?

Don’t know if you are aware of the proposed new bridleway, it would give a good route to several off road tracks & a circular ride using Fullabrook byway. It has stalled at the moment through lack of user evidence after 1965, I wonder if you could publicise this with Riding Club members for anyone who may of ridden on this lane (or yourself) and who would be willing to fill in a User Evidence form.

Many thanks

DCC PRoW meeting on Thursday 2nd June; Aylescott Lane in West Down was turned down, as Nick Steenman-Clark recommended, but his report emphasises that if more forms were to be submitted within the next six months, covering ridden use since 1965, then the route could be re-presented.

Trampers at Heddon Valley

The National Trust in the Heddon Valley manage a scheme for hire of electric trampers for people to use in this area.

There are age, weight a some disability restrictions a maximum speed of 4mph and everybody has to complete a 15 minute training course before they can take the trampers out. They travel over existing surfaces.

There are a number of bridlepaths in the area, riders may naturally be concerned about meeting a tramper for the first time in a tight spot. (Those of you that have ridden the coach path will know that it is not for the fient hearted anyway).

Julian Gurney (NT Head Ranger Exmoor West Properties) has offered to give riders and their horse an opportunity to meet the tramper in a more controlled situation. He has also reassured me that people hiring them will be made aware that the routes are on bridlepaths and to remember that horses can be unpredictable reactionary animals.
