Endurance Riding Club Teams

Would anyone like to join in this?  If so let us know

Riding Clubs are invited to form endurance “squads” of three to six riders.  Each squad can then enter a team of three or four combinations accompanied by one or two individual combinations (making up to six in total) into a qualifying ride of 30 to 35km (about 20 miles).  The qualifying ride can be at any EGB ride that has a suitable class in its schedule.

Potential riders do not need any special equipment, particular breed or type of horse to get started.  Only the rider, their horse and normal riding tack is required.  Riders do not have to be members of Endurance GB in order to compete, but they must be current members of their affiliated Riding Club.  All Riding Club squads must declare each horse and rider combination with the national organisers before they enter any qualifying ride.

Endurance GB’s BRC Team Endurance Event 2011

Just a quick note to say that the new version of the website for Endurance GB’s BRC Team Endurance Event for 2011 is now available – www.rcteamevent.endurancegb.co.uk.

We received a lot of feedback from the Riding Club teams last year from the questionnaire we sent out.  In summary the major changes we have made are as follows:

· The rules have been modified so that squads can enter any Endurance GB ride in order to qualify for the Final.  This will give a much wider choice of events and hopefully will reduce the distance each team has to travel in order to qualife

· To accommodate the change to the qualifying procedure described above, we have introduced a League Table for each Region.  The top two squads in each League Table at a cut off date sometime in August (to be announced) will be invited to go forward to the Final

· We have relaxed the limit of two Endurance GB members per squad; now all but two of the rider and horse combinations in the squad must both be at EGB's Novice Level.  We hope this will encourage Riding Club members to join Endurance GB in the knowledge that they can continue to compete with their Riding Club endurance squad

· We have moved the venue for the Final to The College Ride, Bedfordshire on Sunday 18 September.  Corralling is available at The College Ride venue, giving competitors the choice of stabling or corralling for their horse overnight accommodation.  The endurance route is a significant improvement over that available at The Robin Hood Challenge in 2010.  The pre-ride and post ride veterinary inspections will be under cover.

Please take a look at the website when you have time.  Note that all Riding Club squads must be declared with the national organisers (that’s us by the way) before the squad can compete at a ride (this includes any EGB members).  A Declaration Form can be downloaded from the website.  We will then provide a Mastercard for all members of the squad whose horses are not registered with EGB.

If you are no longer the “Group Co-ordinator” for the Riding Clubs then do please make an effort to appoint someone else within your Group Committee so that we can spread the word about the competition.  We are already getting a good response this year, so we are hopeful of a good event, culminating in an excellent final at The College Ride.

Jane and John
